Advising for New Students
Center for Advising, Career and Life Design
Incoming first-year and transfer students work with a Compass advisor to navigate major, minor and course selection for their first semester at Salve Regina. The Compass advising team supports students throughout the onboarding process. They begin by sending a welcome email that outlines important next steps after you deposit.

Compass Advising for Incoming Students
After you deposit, you will receive a letter from the Compass advising team inviting you to complete an advising and registration checklist in Canvas, Salve Regina's learning management system. You will also book a virtual advising meeting, where you will meet with a Compass advisor to discuss your journey to Salve Regina, your interests and your course selection. Your Compass advisor will be your main point of contact until the semester begins.
Compass advisors also help incoming transfer students determine how their transfer credit applies to their academic record and estimate their potential graduation date.

Salve Compass Program
All Salve Regina students complete the Salve Compass program, which integrates academic and co-curricular experiences with a whole-person emphasis, equipping you with the adaptive resilience necessary to navigate today's job market.
Your Compass advisor will support you in mapping your academic, extracurricular and Compass experiences and help you envision how these experiences play a role in your professional, personal and academic development.
A Compass advisor will teach your First Year Studio course, which is an introduction to design thinking as a framework for maximizing your Salve Regina experience and moving through your unique career journey during and beyond your time here. Center for Advising, Career and Life Design staff also teach the Sophomore Studio course, which is an additional part of the Salve Compass program.
