Salve Compass

At Salve, every undergraduate student has a four-year experience that charts a personalized, values-based path, connecting college to a successful, fulfilling career and a well-lived life.
From the day you arrive to the day you graduate, the Salve Compass program will help you chart your most meaningful path here. Explore your values, build personalized pathways and develop your skills through hands-on experiences, with a community of faculty, peer mentors and advisors to guide you along the way.
Salve Compass is at the heart of a Salve education and is integrated within your academic curriculum.
Every Student Gets Our Best
Salve Compass is integrated into EVERY undergraduate's curriculum plan. Advising and experiences are part of your studies in every major.

Many universities offer internships, research or other opportunities to those who actively seek them out. Our program bakes those into the experience for every student.
Year One: Building Your Foundation
Meet your support team and build community with peers who share similar interests. Connect with your peer mentor weekly to ease the transition to college. Explore your personal values, academic goals, life experiences and our mercy tradition, and design a prototype of possibilities for your future at Salve and beyond.

Year Two: Let's Start Exploring
Identify your strengths, develop the skills you need for personal and professional success, and discover how you might make a difference in your community and in our world. In a conference-style workshop you’ll learn important information and tips for interviewing, networking, resume-building, professional wardrobe and more.

Compass Summer Experiences
Graduates need to know how to work as a team – leveraging different skills, perspectives and styles for success. This is the heart of the Compass Summer experience, which caps off your second year. In these short-term summer experiences in and around Newport, you can explore within or outside of your major or desired career path.

Year Three: Immersion in Your Area of Study
Take what you’ve learned so far and go deeper into your major with hands-on learning through internships, fieldwork, community service, study abroad and local/regional/national organizations.

Year Four: Integrating Your Experiences for Success
Your academics, student life, experiences and mission all come together as you look forward to your next steps after graduation. Faculty and mentors help you package all you’ve done at Salve to present yourself to employers and graduate schools with strength through research opportunities, networking and presentations.
