Compass Summer

Take advantage of an optional short-term summer experience in or around Newport to build the skills employers seek.

The Compass Summer offers opportunities for students to spend a week as crew on a Tall Ship, explore the beauty of Aquidneck Island's natural resources, train animals at a local shelter, document the Newport Jazz Festival experience and so much more.

These one- or two-week immersive group projects cap off the sophomore or junior year. Choose an experience that piques your interest, whether it’s exploring a new area or diving more deeply into your academic program. Each is faculty-led, and thanks to the generosity of our donors, there is no cost for Compass Summer programs, which also provide on-campus housing.

Compass Summer allowed me to learn new things about the environment and myself and has completely transformed my outlook on my own education and future career aspirations.
