Seahawk Spirit
Whether you compete for one of our 20 NCAA Division III varsity teams, participate in club and intramural sports or cheer from the sidelines, becoming a Seahawk means joining a community dedicated to collective success. As a member of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), we are aligned with premier institutions that champion academic and athletic excellence.
Be Active, Be Healthy, Belong
Newport and Aquidneck Island are a mecca of activity year-round. With miles of scenic roadways, beaches and trails to explore, plenty of water to splash around in and even an 11-court indoor pickleball facility all here on the island, our recreational sports program will help you find activities that make your heart happy and healthy.

Salve sponsors 20 varsity sports, supporting over 500 student-athletes. We compete in baseball, basketball (men’s and women’s), cross country (men’s and women’s), equestrian (co-ed), field hockey, football, ice hockey (men’s and women’s), lacrosse (men’s and women’s), sailing (co-ed), soccer (men’s and women’s), softball, tennis (men’s and women’s), track and field (women’s) and volleyball.

Club Sports
By participating in club sports at Salve, you'll have the opportunity to practice and compete at a level that fuels your inner athlete while still allowing you the time you need to embrace all that the University has to offer. Many club teams are open to all students regardless of their experience or talent in the sport.

Intramurals
Intramurals are a great way to have fun and meet new people. Open to all students, they're offered in league or tournament play. Compete in basketball, cornhole, Spikeball, volleyball and more for your shot at glory and a chance to win the coveted Salve intramural championship T-shirt. You can form your own team or sign up as an individual. Some intramurals also incorporate staff and faculty.

Recreational Organizations
Salve has a number of student organizations centered around active lifestyles. From indoor rock climbing to yoga on the beach to hiking in the White Mountains, you can join a club that's sure to satisfy your spirit of adventure.

Excursions and Fitness
While Salve's oceanside location in Newport is unmatched, every once in a while we like to head off island to explore. Whether you're skiing up north or catching a professional sporting event, it's always more fun when you're with a group of fellow Seahawks. And through our Well Fit program, you can participate in a variety of classes, from cardio hip hop to HIIT to Sunday stretch.

Bike Program
Our Salve Cycle program offers a full-service bike shop that provides free rentals to Salve students, faculty and staff. We have a wide variety of bikes, from beach cruisers to road bikes. All come with a helmet and lock, and you can borrow them for a day or the entire academic year. Whether you're looking for a sustainable way to get to class or just to have some fun, we'll get you fitted on a bike that's right for you. The bike shop is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-3 p.m. or by appointment.
