International Relations Minor

Open to students from all majors, Salve Regina University's minor in international relations explores different political systems around the world, along with their conflicts, cultures, histories and economies.
Explore the Issues That Impact Our Integrated World
Our required curriculum introduces students to:
- The history of war and conquest, the achievements of diplomacy and cooperation and the search for peace and justice.
- The origins of the nation-state system, the conduct and practice of diplomacy, and the analysis of major contemporary issues.
- How culture, history and markets influence politics in different countries and why political systems vary from one country to another.
After completing three foundational courses, students can tailor the minor to their interests through electives that focus on Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and Russia.
Small classes enable students to work closely with each other and with our faculty. You can also enrich your education through our Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy, where compelling speakers and presentations explore the issues dominating world events.
Note that because many courses overlap, the international relations minor is not open to political science majors. Political science majors with a special interest in international relations are advised to pursue the major's concentration in international relations and comparative politics.
Online Master's Degree
After completing the minor, students may consider our online master's degree in international relations. Emphasizing global citizenship, the program explores the ethical implications of war, peaceful resolution of world conflicts, natural disasters and their resulting humanitarian crises, and strategies to resolve disputes between groups and individuals.

Career Paths in International Relations
Our graduates can explore careers with federal and state governments, nongovernmental organizations and multinational businesses. The minor also provides excellent academic preparation for our master's degree in international relations.
