What's My Why?

I'm a storyteller originally from the Appalachian mountains of Virginia. I love to travel and collect stories from the places I visit and the people I meet. I'm passionate about teaching writing and helping students find their voice on the page. I'm equally passionate about supporting and encouraging students. I talk about writing, tutoring, and teaching as practices. The very notion of something as a practice implies imperfection, repetitiveness, and revision. I believe students should be encouraged to take chances in the pursuit of learning, and as a result I try to create classrooms that reward growth, development, and positive academic risk-taking throughout the semester.
