Built as a ballroom on the Newport Casino campus, the Casino Theatre now houses Salve Regina University’s music, theater and dance performances in addition to providing rental space for other performances, receptions and more.

Since the late 19th century, the Casino Theatre has hosted everything from vaudevillian comic acts to elegant ballets. Designed by Stanford White in his signature style, the theater perfectly encapsulates the popular shingle-styled exterior, gold trimming and basket-weave plaster of the age. Throughout the early 20th century, the stage saw the likes of Vincent Price, Talullah Bankhead and Eva Gabor.

After falling into disrepair in the late 1980s, the Casino Theatre was closed due to structural concerns. The building was restored in 2010 through a partnership with Salve and the International Tennis Hall of Fame. The award-winning restoration kept intact the Victorian shingles and gilded ornamentation and even restored the green velvet seats with their original top hat racks beneath.
