International Student Orientation

The Center for Global Education and Fellowships is excited to welcome you to Salve Regina. International student orientation (ISO) is a program specifically designed for new or transferring undergraduate international students, exchange students and U.S. citizens who grew up overseas. Participation is required for all F-1 students and highly encouraged for all others. Please note that there is no orientation for families.
Cost
ISO is free – there is no fee to attend. Meals will be planned by the Center for Global Education and Fellowships or international peer mentors, and occasionally may require cash.
Housing
Students arriving for ISO will have early access to their permanent residence. There is no additional fee and you will not require a move-in permit.
Please note: Students attending ISO may not stay with their families in their hotel.
Activities
Students will see and experience something new, informative and exciting each day. Past activities have included:
- Informative sessions on topics such as campus life, academics and U.S. classroom culture
- Tours of downtown Newport and the campus
- Shopping trips in Newport and surrounding areas (to include Walmart, Target, Best Buy)
- Bonfire and s’mores on the beach
Shuttle Information
Students arriving for ISO may take advantage of the free shuttle service to the Salve Regina campus from a pickup location at the Amtrak Station in Providence, Rhode Island. For the spring 2025 semester, the shuttle will operate on Wednesday, Jan. 15. If you wish to use this service, please choose flights, trains or buses that arrive in Providence before the designated pickup times. The latest pickup time will be at 1 p.m. Please complete the reservation form by Jan. 10 so we know you are coming. When you arrive, wait at the designated pickup point.
Providence Amtrak Station pickup times:
- Pickup #1: 11 a.m.
- Pickup #2: 1 p.m.
Important Dates
- Arrival: Wednesday, Jan. 15
- Mandatory ISO: Thursday, Jan. 16
- New Seahawk Orientation: Friday, Jan. 17
- Classes begin: Tuesday, Jan. 21
- Last day of exams for the spring 2025 semester: Saturday, May 10
