Our Campus and the Newport Advantage

Salve Regina University continues to break new ground, literally and figuratively, in our efforts to deliver a transformative educational experience for each student. Currently, two new structures are beginning to emerge on our oceanside campus. Reference this page to stay informed about construction progress and/or impacts on our campus community and Newport neighbors.

Commitment to the Earth

As a mission-driven institution with the Earth as one of our critical concerns, Salve takes particular care to consider, protect and preserve the natural ecosystems of our campus in our construction projects. We consult with arborists and always take extra measures in our planning to avoid removing healthy trees whenever possible. We track all trees removed from our campus and replant an equal or larger number.

July 9 Construction Update

  • Construction hours: 7 am to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • While much of the construction fence has been removed, site work is still underway, so please do not approach the building.
  • Construction of new sidewalks on Lawrence and Shepard avenues continues.
  • Demolition of the 1960s addition to Watts Sherman House is complete. Site work to complete parking and patio construction continues.
  • The walking path between Shepard and Victoria avenues (an extension of Wetmore Avenue) is closed and will remain so until construction is complete.
  • Expect continued noise and movement of large construction vehicles and machinery.

July 9 Construction Update

  • Construction hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The construction fence will remain around the site until construction is complete.
  • Site work and landscaping will continue during July and August.
  • Traffic pattern changes: Parking along Lawrence Avenue and inside the McKillop Library back lot will continue to be blocked off as needed. Pedestrian traffic remains blocked between McKillop and Gerety Hall and the Gerety patio is closed.
  • Expect continued noise and movement of large construction vehicles and machinery.
