Our Campus and the Newport Advantage

Salve Regina University continues to break new ground, literally and figuratively, in our efforts to deliver a transformative educational experience for each student. Currently, two new structures are beginning to emerge on our oceanside campus. Reference this page to stay informed about construction progress and/or impacts on our campus community and Newport neighbors.

Commitment to the Earth

As a mission-driven institution with the Earth as one of our critical concerns, Salve takes particular care to consider, protect and preserve the natural ecosystems of our campus in our construction projects. We consult with arborists and always take extra measures in our planning to avoid removing healthy trees whenever possible. We track all trees removed from our campus and replant an equal or larger number.

Sept. 1 Construction Update

  • Construction work on the building and new sidewalks is complete.
  • Site work for parking is complete.
  • The walking path between Shepard and Victoria avenues (an extension of Wetmore Avenue) will be fully open by Sept. 4.
  • Demolition of the 1960s addition to Watts Sherman House is complete. Construction of the patio, including landscape, interior and facade restoration work will continue through September.

Sept. 1 Construction Update

  • Construction hours: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Construction of the interior and exterior is complete. Landscaping is expected to continue through September.
  • The construction fence has been removed.
  • Parking along Lawrence Avenue and inside the McKillop Library back lot will be blocked off as needed.
  • Pedestrian traffic between McKillop Library and Gerety Hall will reopen by Sept. 4 and the Gerety patio will reopen by Sept. 10.
  • Expect continued noise and movement of large construction vehicles and machinery.
