Simulation Labs and Equipment

Salve's nursing simulation labs provide hands-on training that connects your classroom learning to real-world clinical practice.

Beginning in your sophomore year, you'll use state-of-the-art equipment to practice fundamental skills, conduct health assessments, document patient care, administer medications and evaluate patient responses to treatment – all in a safe, supportive environment.

Through realistic simulation exercises, you'll learn to care for patients with acute, chronic and complex health conditions across the lifespan. All nursing courses with a clinical component include at least one simulation day, helping you build the confidence to succeed in a variety of healthcare settings.

Led by a certified healthcare simulation educator, our simulation experiences integrate the theoretical and practice skills needed to prepare for the National Council Licensure Examination and secure your license to practice.

Practice Clinical Skills in Realistic Labs

Our five simulation labs feature the same advanced manikins used by medical schools around the world, with 12 models ranging in age from newborn to adult. Additionally, our three exam rooms provide additional opportunities to build clinical skills like administering EKGs and analyzing x-rays.

A student in a protective gown cares for a newborn manikin, while other students assist a female manikin on a hospital bed in the background.

High-Fidelity Manikins

Our six high-fidelity manikins replicate realistic patient conditions and responses. They include:

  • MamaAnne, a maternal and birthing simulator for immersive labor and delivery training.
  • NewB, a newborn simulator that recreates the first 10 minutes of life, allowing for advanced training in airway management.
  • Baby, a toddler simulator that improves pediatric critical care by replicating respiratory emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Junior, an 8-year-old pediatric simulator that presents conditions ranging from a healthy child to an unresponsive patient with no vital signs.
  • Mike, a SimMan 3G Plus that simulates complex medical cases and emergency situations, including cardiac arrest.
  • Coming soon: Our additional SimMan will be replaced with SimMan Critical Care, expanding opportunities for advanced training in respiratory care, critical care and anesthesia.

Medium- and Low-Fidelity Manikins

Our five medium-fidelity manikins are lightweight and maneuverable, allowing you to practice procedures such as starting IVs and administering injections. They also allow for wearable equipment and interactive experiences with gastrointestinal, genitourinary and musculoskeletal issues. Additionally, our low-fidelity manikin is ideal for practicing injections and building communication skills that aid in assessing patients.

Wearable Equipment

Our specialized wearable equipment includes:

  • Two AVtrach tracheostomy simulators, designed to practice tracheal care and suctioning. They can be used on a manikin or a person, and one simulator features an attached ventilator for advanced training.
  • One AVline central line simulator for a wide range of central venous catheter (CVC) procedures, allowing you to practice drawing blood and administering medicines.

Build Confidence Through Simulation and Debriefing

Our SimMan 3G Plus manikin is housed in a lab equipped with cameras that capture students as they navigate realistic scenarios and interact with patients and families. In the adjacent debriefing room, you can review your performance with instructors to identify strengths, pinpoint areas for improvement and build confidence in your assessment skills and clinical performance.

Nursing students observe a simulated patient scenario through a viewing window while instructors monitor the session from a debriefing room.
