Explore the Past, Shape the Future
Tailor your studies by choosing between two distinct majors:
- American history: Explore the complexities of the United States from its earliest days to modern times, diving into political, cultural and social movements that continue to shape the nation.
- European history: Uncover the rich tapestry of European civilizations, from the age of the French Revolution to contemporary Europe, analyzing the forces that shaped art, philosophy, governance and global interactions.
In addition to studying American and European history, you'll gain a broad global perspective by engaging with courses on non-Western regions and exploring diverse historical narratives. Whether you dream of curating museum exhibits, teaching history or influencing policy, our program empowers you to build a future inspired by the past.

Director of education, New England Air Museum
Joining modern-day CEOs, historians and entrepreneurs on the History Channel's "Titans That Built America," Amanda Goodheart Parks served as a commentator throughout the series, sharing her historical insights on the early days of aviation and those who helped define the era and industry. Alexandra Kenney '22
Law student, New England Law | Boston
"The most memorable aspect of my Salve education would be the process of my senior thesis. I wrote about Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis and his impact on American Zionism before the foundation of Israel. The presentation of my thesis really helped my oral argument skills as I had to publicly defend my thesis topic, and all the history professors genuinely really care about student success - and will do everything in their power to make sure you succeed."

Eddie Cullinane '19
Special assistant to the president, Babson College
