Entrepreneurship Minor

Designed to complement any major, Salve Regina University's minor in entrepreneurship offers the opportunity to leverage your unique talents and passions while developing the knowledge and skills needed to achieve your startup goals. Through our partnership with Innovate Newport, students network with entrepreneurs, contribute to entrepreneurial endeavors in Rhode Island and understand economic development in the region.
Entrepreneurs are not just those who study business - they are individuals who are passionate about creating a lasting change or difference in an area.
Dr. Adam Witham, assistant professor
The study of entrepreneurship focuses on generating ideas and solutions to problems that affect society. Entrepreneurs look to improve the world through new ideas, products and services, and we equip students with the skills and experience to translate their big ideas into real impact across sectors. Salve's minor in entrepreneurship can be combined with all fields of study, expanding career opportunities and enhancing professional development.
Innovate Newport Partnership
A strategic partnership between Salve and Innovate Newport offers access to resources and opportunities for collaboration including internships, joint programming and networking. Events include the Rhode Island Student Entrepreneurs (R.I.S.E.) Summit, which is organized each year by Salve’s entrepreneurship students for their peers from Rhode Island colleges and universities. The summit features workshops, flash talks, a keynote speaker and multiple networking opportunities.

Seahawk Tank
Students enrolled in the Strategic Business Planning Capstone course work in teams to identify and research a potential business opportunity; they develop strategic, marketing, human resource staffing and operations plans to support the venture. Teams present their proposed business plan at the end of each semester and compete for a spot in the annual Seahawk Tank - a pitch competition held each May in which the top ranked teams present their ideas to a panel of judges and compete for bragging rights and cash prizes.

The Salve Compass
Connecting college to career, the Salve Compass program ensures that every student has the skills and knowledge to succeed in the job market. Innovative programming such as the Summer Compass provide unique opportunities for interdisciplinary experiences that enable students to collaborate with faculty and immerse themselves in the vibrant Newport community.
Career Paths in Entrepreneurship
Salve's entrepreneurship program empowers students to pursue their own unique passions, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to initiate an entrepreneurial endeavor across a multitude of industries.
As one of the first Salve students to declare as an entrepreneurship minor, I was lucky enough to engage in more real-world learning experiences with the local startup ecosystem than I ever would have imagined.
