Department of Social Work

The Department of Social Work builds on the principles of social justice to provide a generalist education that prepares students for work with individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations.

Our students learn the values, skills and knowledge needed to intervene effectively at the individual, community and policy level to facilitate systemic change. Consistent with our mission, we strive for the elimination of poverty, the eradication of oppression and the promotion of universal justice.

Salve is unique in that it offers field experiences for two years, while many programs only offer senior-year placements. I was fortunate to work with two diverse populations - adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and troubled youth and families. I learned so much about myself as a social worker and what I have to offer to the profession.
