Preparing for Marriage

Marriage preparation is essential and is guided by the officiating priest or deacon. Couples living outside Rhode Island or the Diocese of Providence should allow extra time for processing.

Planning Your Ceremony

Your wedding ceremony is a Catholic liturgy. All aspects of the celebration must reflect the sacred nature of the sacrament of marriage.

  • All music must be sacred and approved by the officiant. For additional guidance, please email Dan Monte, campus minister for music and liturgy.
  • Floral arrangements must respect liturgical furnishings and seasons.
  • Wedding planners may attend rehearsals and ceremonies but may not direct the liturgy.
  • Alcohol is not permitted on chapel grounds.
  • Photography and videography must remain discreet and unobtrusive.

Wedding rehearsals are typically held the evening before the wedding and last approximately 30-45 minutes.

The chapel will be open:

  • One hour before the ceremony
  • One hour after the ceremony

A ceremony coordinator will be present to guide both the rehearsal and wedding day logistics.

The recommended GPS address is 100 Ochre Point Ave., which brings guests to Ochre Court, adjacent to the chapel.

Guests may park on campus streets or in campus parking lots. Due to seasonal traffic in Newport, couples are encouraged to advise guests to allow extra travel time.

Handicap access is available via the McAuley Hall circle, and the chapel includes an accessible restroom.

Marriage certificates are issued by the city of Newport and must be requested directly by the couple.

The sacrament of marriage is officially recorded at Saint Mary's Church in Newport.
