Attend the Study Abroad Fair and/or an Information Session

Held each fall, our study abroad fair is your chance to learn about the different locations, programs and institutions available; meet with representatives from various organizations; and speak with study abroad alumni and exchange students about their experiences.

Led by our global ambassadors – current Salve Regina students who’ve completed one of our approved study abroad programs – information sessions are held Monday through Thursday at 4 p.m. in Drexel Hall. You can browse through our resource library, view program brochures and ask questions.

Apply for Your Passport

You should apply for or renew your passport as soon as possible. The current processing time for routine applications is approximately 18 weeks, which includes 5-6 weeks for mailing and up to 12 weeks for processing.

Meet With the Center for Global Education and Fellowships and Your Primary Advisor

Once you have determined which country and program you are interested in, make an appointment with the Center for Global Education and Fellowships to discuss your plans and the application process. Discuss how your proposed study abroad courses will fit in with your degree requirements.

You should also verify with your major/minor advisor that your proposed study abroad courses will fit in with your degree requirements.

Find Out About Financing Your Study Abroad Program

We operate under a home school tuition policy, meaning you pay tuition to Salve Regina when studying abroad on an approved program for a semester or academic year. Institutional merit and need-based financial aid are portable for approved semester or academic year programs, as are applicable federal financial aid packages.

Students who participate in short-term programs led by Salve Regina faculty are billed the entire program fee as dictated by the University (tuition included). There is no portability of aid for students participating in short-term programs.

You should complete your application the semester before you plan to study abroad.

Deadlines are:

• Fall semester and academic year programs: March 15
• Spring semester: Oct. 1
• Short-term summer programs: Deadlines vary

Once You've Been Accepted

Once you’ve been accepted, be sure to complete all necessary post-acceptance forms. You should also apply for your student visa (if necessary) and make travel plans.

Each semester, we offer a mandatory pre-departure orientation, which includes program information and question-and-answer sessions with past participants. Prior to attending, carefully review the information in your orientation packet and prepare to ask questions.
