Undergraduate Financial Aid Process
Apply for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
All new, prospective students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and its potential supporting documents. Please note: Salve does not use College Board’s College Scholarship Service (CSS) profile.
- Salve's FAFSA school code is 003411.
- You may sign the FAFSA electronically using the FSA ID and password you create through the Department of Education. Learn how to create an FSA ID.
- The FAFSA requires tax information from two years prior. For example, the 2025-2026 form asks for 2023 tax information.
- You will receive a FAFSA submission summary report electronically or in the mail. This copy is for your records. Do not submit it to Salve. We will receive your information electronically.
Deadlines
- For September admission, the priority deadline to apply for financial aid is March 1.
- All verification documents are due by May 15.
- For January transfer admission, students should file the FAFSA as soon as possible, as financial aid for January admits is awarded on a rolling basis.
FAFSA Verification
Verification is a process used to confirm the information you reported to the U.S. Department of Education on your FAFSA. In most cases, the U.S. Department of Education selects a FAFSA for verification, and we facilitate the process by requesting documentation required according to federal student aid program rules. If any discrepancies or inconsistencies are noted once verification is complete, we will update your FAFSA to ensure your eligibility for federal student aid funds has been calculated accurately.
If you have any questions about verification or documentation requirements, we're here to help. Email us at financial_aid@salve.edu and be sure to include your name and student ID number.
Types of Financial Aid Offered
A student’s financial aid package can contain multiple types of financial support and financing, which may include merit scholarships, need-based aid and loans.
Merit-Based Aid
Students are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships when applying.
Need-Based Aid
Need-based aid includes grants, student employment and federal direct loans.
Financing Options
Financing options include payment plans, private and parent loans.
Process for Returning Students
If you're a returning student who previously received financial aid, you must submit a new FAFSA each year. The priority deadline to submit your FAFSA is March 1.
Financial aid packages for returning students are typically awarded starting in March. Please note that missing the March 1 deadline may result in reduced aid.
At the end of each academic year, your grades and academic progress will be reviewed. Students who do not meet satisfactory academic progress requirements may lose their eligibility for financial aid.
Special Circumstances
If your family's financial situation changes considerably from one year to the next due to extenuating circumstances such as the death of a parent, unemployment, retirement or significant out-of-pocket medical expenses, please contact our office for guidance.
Requests for consideration of aid must be made in writing to the Office of Financial Aid. All requested documentation must be submitted prior to a review for special circumstances.
If your parents are divorced or separated, any additional documentation requested to support a reconsideration due to special circumstances must be submitted by the parent who provided more financial support during the last 12-month period prior to filing the FAFSA. If an equal amount of support was provided, provide information for the parent with greater income and assets. By law, stepparent income must be included in the household income of the parent of record.
Unusual Circumstances
To apply for funding as an independent student, you must meet one of the qualifications listed on the FAFSA. Self-supporting students do not qualify as independent without meeting one of the established criteria.
There are times when unusual circumstances (e.g., human trafficking, refugee or asylee status, parental abandonment, incarceration) allow a financial administrator to adjust your dependency status on the FAFSA.
Requests for consideration of aid must be made in writing to the Office of Financial Aid.
In some instances, you may have both special and unusual circumstances.
