Pre-Med and Pre-Health Advising

Medical Equipment

Salve Regina University's pre-med and pre-health advising program prepares you to apply to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools, along with professional programs in dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, podiatry, pharmacy, physical or occupational therapy, physician assistant/associate, anesthesiology and more.

All students work closely with our dedicated health professions advisor. You'll receive personalized guidance on course selection, experiential learning, internships and research opportunities. We'll support you before you matriculate and continue through graduation and into your alumni years. We also host events that connect you with programs, alumni and professionals to learn about the application process, professional school experiences and what it's like to work in clinical health care fields.

While most students major in biology, biochemistry or chemistry, in many cases you can pursue any academic program at Salve, as long as you complete the prerequisite courses recommended for admission to professional schools. Topics usually include biology, chemistry, biochemistry, physics, calculus, statistics and psychology.

Prepare With Purpose

"Professional schools look for well-rounded applicants with experience beyond the classroom – working in entry-level clinical roles, shadowing professionals, conducting research, developing teamwork and leadership skills, and volunteering in the community. Successful applications are all about timing and readiness – not rushing the process. We're here to support and guide you every step of the way, even after graduation." Foundational Courses

If you're interested in the health professions, you can choose any major at Salve, as long as you complete the prerequisite courses that are essential for medical and professional school applications. Depending on the career path you plan to pursue, choosing a major outside the STEM fields may require additional time to complete those prerequisites.

Build Skills That Matter

"The liberal arts education that Salve instills is a wonderful way to have students expand beyond their major. Between philosophy, lab reports and clinical writing, Salve prepared me to approach pharmacy school with strong communication and critical thinking abilities. Even courses like biochemistry, which weren’t required for all my peers at the University of Saint Joseph, gave me an edge." - Ciara Marro-Wilson '23, pharmacy resident, Staten Island University Hospital
