Neuroscience Minor

Salve Regina University's interdisciplinary minor in neuroscience combines the best of biology and psychology, blending cognitive and physiological sciences to provide a holistic understanding of how the brain, body and emotions are interconnected.
Being a neuroscience minor invigorated my passion for the sciences and allowed me to see myself in the field, and it touches on important topics, from methods to how to approach scientific problems, which have become increasingly important in my graduate studies.
Haley Tallman '23, Ph.D. candidate in neuroscience, UConn Health
Neuroscience is one of the most exciting and rapidly evolving fields, offering the chance to explore everything from Alzheimer's research and brain development to mindfulness effects and Parkinson's disease through cutting-edge tools and techniques.
Whether you're preparing for graduate studies in biology, psychology or neuroscience or simply have a passion for the field, our neuroscience minor equips you with the knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in both research and real-world applications.
Research Opportunities
Neuroscience research at Salve spans multiple departments, with faculty from our biology, chemistry, mathematics and psychology programs exploring the nervous system from diverse perspectives. This collaborative approach provides students with a rich interdisciplinary foundation in neuroscience.

Interdisciplinary Coursework
In the course BIO425: Neuroscience, students explore the structure and function of the nervous system from the molecular to the organismal level. They learn how the function of the cells within the nervous system relate to human behavior, and along the way, students develop strong scientific literacy and communication skills, preparing them to engage with cutting-edge research and real-world applications in the field.

Life After Salve
Our program provides a strong foundation for graduate studies in fields like neuroscience, psychology, medicine and health care. Whether you're interested in nursing, speech pathology, occupational therapy or social work, our coursework prepares you for a variety of careers that require a deep understanding of the brain and nervous system. Graduates are well equipped to enter diverse fields such as clinical psychology, medical illustration, pharmacy, neurodiagnostic technology, public health research and even scientific journalism. With the skills gained from the program, you're prepared to make meaningful contributions in health care, education and research.
