Admission Requirements
Education
Acceptance to Salve Regina as an education major is considered provisional acceptance into the Department of Education. Students applying to an education program must submit scores on the SAT, ACT or Praxis Core to gain full acceptance into a program. This is a requirement set by the Rhode Island Department of Education and recommended minimum scores are determined annually.
Students who do not meet the recommended minimum score can take a one-credit remedial course to meet the requirement, providing they score a B or better in that course.
Students must formally apply to the Department of Education, usually during the second semester of their sophomore year. To gain formal admission, prospective education majors must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, earn a C or better in all education courses and meet the readiness for admission criteria.
Once they are formally admitted to the Department of Education, education majors must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.75, earn a C or better in all education courses and meet the specific requirements for Completion of Methods and Prior to Licensure assessment points as outlined in the assessment handbook.
Transfer students must meet the same formal admission requirements. Grades for all courses completed at prior institutions (not just those accepted by Salve Regina) count toward a transfer student's overall GPA in calculating the 2.75 admission requirement.
