What's My Why?
I am strongly committed to a life of learning. Education doesn't end after students graduate and become RNs. Instead, they start on a path of lifelong learning that goes on throughout their nursing careers. It is critical that they continue gathering information to keep abreast of the changes in the profession. I try to impart this to every new class of nursing students I teach. My philosophy of teaching is based on a belief that learning needs to be student-centered and that students need to be equal partners in the learning process. As a nurse educator, I recognize the impact my instruction, behavior and attitudes have in shaping not only the student's perception of nursing, but also their future practice.
Professional Experience
In addition to being an associate professor and chair of the nursing department, I am on the board of the Nursing Foundation of Rhode Island, have been the state advisor to the Student Nurses' Association of Rhode Island and am a member of ANA-RI and received the Academic Nurse Educator Award from this organization. I am also a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
