What's My Why?

I am a clinical scientist committed to conducting research that integrates science and practice and teaching students about psychological theory and science. I view the relationship between science and practice as reciprocal and strive to incorporate both scientific and therapeutic principles in my teaching, research and clinical practice. Thus far, I have focused my research and clinical work on better understanding and treating the negative sequelae of trauma exposure and adversity in children and families in vulnerable and marginalized populations, namely youth and families involved in the child welfare and/or juvenile legal systems. I find teaching and mentoring students in both the classroom and applied settings to be extremely rewarding and look forward to working with Salve students in and outside the classroom.

Professional Experience

In addition to my role at Salve, I serve as director of the court improvement program at the Rhode Island Family Court. In this role, I direct the court’s federally-funded research program that aims to improve permanency outcomes among youth involved in Rhode Island’s child welfare system. Additionally, I am a licensed clinical psychologist and maintain my own private clinical practice, where I provide evidence-based mental health care to children, adolescents and young adults.
