Recommended Laptops
Information Technology
Salve Regina provides recommended specifications for both Apple and PC laptops to ensure that students have the right technology for their coursework. These guidelines help students choose a laptop that meets their academic needs. Students should contact their department chair or program faculty for additional requirements specific to their major.
Apple Laptops
Recommended specifications: 13-inch MacBook Air with M2 chip, 16GB RAM and 512GB SDD storage.
Apple's education store allows students and their families, faculty and staff to purchase computers, software and select accessories at special prices. AppleCare+ for Mac extends coverage from your purchase date and may be considered for future peace of mind on damage and repairs.
PC Laptops
Recommended specifications: 14-inch display, i5 processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD storage.
It is recommended that you look at business class models for more durability. Some distributors and manufacturers may have educational pricing with discounts. Extended warranties and accidental damage coverage may be considered for peace of mind and are available from most manufacturers.

- Exploratory students who are considering majors in the Department of Business and Economics: Windows-based laptops are encouraged.
- Studio art majors: Macs are recommended but not required.
Other Devices
Smartphones, Chromebooks, iPads and other tablets are not recommended as your primary computing device.
Microsoft Office 365
Full-time students can download Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus for up to five personal machines. The package includes the basic elements students need to accomplish their work and tools to keep their computers safe and secure.
IT Support
The University offers basic support for student-owned laptops. If issues such as software installation, Wi-Fi connectivity or account access can be resolved through basic troubleshooting, or if a brief training session can help, the Information Technology team is happy to assist. For more complex hardware issues such as motherboard failures, battery replacements or physical damage, students should seek repair services from a local provider.
