Health and Wellness Community Outreach Program

Salve Regina University’s health and wellness community outreach program educates the next generation of health care and mental health professionals while supporting communities in need.

Working in partnership with local health care and community organizations, our students bring on-site care, wellness education and preventative screenings directly to underserved populations, helping to reduce health care disparities across the state.

Students gain hands-on experience assessing community needs, improving their ability to communicate public health practices and provide education tailored to the unique needs of the individuals and neighborhoods served by the mobile unit.

Through these community-based efforts, we're building a culture of health among vulnerable populations by promoting healthy behaviors and expanding access to wellness resources. Armed with this real-world experience, our graduates learn to listen, respond and communicate effectively in diverse community settings to advance equitable access to care.

Classroom on Wheels

The centerpiece of the community outreach program is our 40-foot mobile unit, equipped with two private counseling rooms and one exam room that includes health and wellness education models and materials. This “classroom on wheels” provides a valuable connection to the state’s health care delivery systems.

Hands-On Learning

Hands-on learning is central to our nursing, social work and health sciences programs. Through the community outreach program, students are directly involved with patient care, particularly in settings where they work with underserved populations. This prepares them to enter the workforce as highly skilled nurses, social workers and clinicians who have the knowledge and abilities needed to provide high-quality care.
