What's My Why?

My why is to prepare nurses who are confident, compassionate and ready to think critically when it matters most. After more than two decades at the bedside, I’ve seen how strong clinical judgment, communication and teamwork directly impact patient outcomes, especially in diverse, high-acuity settings. I am deeply committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and I intentionally create psychologically safe learning environments that honor students’ lived experiences and prepare them to deliver culturally responsive, equitable and patient-centered care.

Professional Experience

I am an assistant professor of nursing at another local college, where I teach across classroom, laboratory, simulation and online environments, with a focus on preparing practice-ready nurses. I have over 20 years of clinical experience as a registered nurse in a Level I trauma center emergency department, where I have served as a staff nurse, charge nurse, educator and preceptor. I remain actively engaged in clinical practice, which allows me to integrate current, real-world emergency and trauma care into my teaching. My academic work centers on simulation-based education, clinical judgment development and concept-based curriculum design, with a strong emphasis on communication, patient safety and teamwork. I also teach ACLS and BLS and support faculty development through curriculum design, assessment and simulation faculty training, always prioritizing psychological safety and inclusive learning environments.
