LGBTQ+ Center

Salve's LGBTQ+ Center serves all LGBTQIA2S+ members of the University community and their allies. We aim to educate, support and celebrate each other and every facet of our identities. We provide an empowering space where LGBTQIA2S+ people and their allies can be themselves and explore their identities.
Our Values
- Support LGBTQIA2S+ students holistically and with an intersectional lens.
- Promote social justice for every member of the Salve community, regardless of gender identity, gender expression, body, ability, sexuality, nationality, race, spirituality and ethnicity.
- Encourage thoughtful dialogue that allows people to ask questions and learn without fear of being judged.
- Create a sense of belonging for LGTBQIA2S+ students, faculty and staff.
- Contribute to a campus climate where people can feel safe, welcomed and celebrated for who they are, no matter their identities.
- Have fun.
Gender-Inclusive Housing
The Office of Residence Life is committed to fostering a living community that promotes the dignity of all people and is welcoming, safe and inclusive. Gender-inclusive housing is an option in which two or more students share the common areas of a multiple-occupancy apartment, suite or residence hall room regardless of their sex assigned at birth, gender, gender identity or gender expression. Salve offers gender-inclusive housing for all resident students.

LGBTQIA2S+ Student and Ally Group
Alliance is an all-inclusive student organization that helps LGBTQIA2S+ students and allies find community at Salve. During weekly meetings, members discuss LGBTQIA2S+ issues and current events, and partake in activities designed to create an enjoyable environment on campus.

Minor in Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies
Social injustices are as old as society itself. Discrimination and violence based on race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality have mobilized a new generation of activists. Our minor in women, gender and sexuality studies aims to empower students with the tools necessary to interrogate power hierarchies, combat social inequities and fight for the dignity of individuals.

Training and Workshops
The LGBTQ+ Center provides training and workshops that spread awareness about LGBTQIA2S+ identities; educate about power, privilege and oppression; and advocate for equity - all through an intersectional lens. It's important to remember that LGBTQIA2S+ terminology and issues are constantly evolving, so do your own homework in between training.
LGBTQ+ 101 (One hour)
- This abbreviated version of Safe Zone Training can be catered to your department, office or group. The course provides a brief overview of different aspects of gender and sexual identities, as well as a basic overview of LGBTQIA+ vocabulary. If you are looking to have specific topics covered in your training, please indicate on the request form.
- Please be aware that this course does not provide Safe Zone certification. You must complete the two-hour training to become Safe Zone certified and be added to our list of certified Seahawks.
Safe Zone Training (Two hours)
- This in-depth look at identity, attraction, expression and sex also covers the LGBTQ+ umbrella and vocabulary. This workshop-style training offers multiple activities that provide thought-provoking reflection and conversation.
- While we may adjust some parts of the training for your department, office or group, most of it will remain the same to ensure all Safe Zone-certified individuals at Salve receive similar training. Those who complete the training receive a Safe Zone sticker for their individual office window, door or cubicle (stickers should not be placed in communal spaces) and are added to our list of Safe Zone-certified Seahawks.
Classroom Facilitation
If you are a faculty member looking to have someone speak to your class about LGBTQ+ topics, please email salvepride@salve.edu and provide the dates and times you are considering, the topics you would like covered, and anything else we should know regarding classroom facilitation.
