Personal Statement:

Originally from Japan, where my Japanese mother married an Irishman from Newport, I am naturally drawn to exploring cultures – their worldviews, beliefs, and values. I unpack these further in intercultural healthcare, particularly on the dynamics of ethics and communication. Given the power, pervasiveness, and invasiveness of advanced medical technologies, I am currently exploring the moral and existential implications of these technologies and our mounting obsession with devices upon caregiving and the human-to-human interface.
