Morgenstein is launching Empowerment Solar, selling solar electricity in the Middle East. Most recently, he helped to establish two offices in the Department of Defense - the Global Strategic Engagement Team and the Office of Rule of Law and International Humanitarian Policy. Morgenstein also served as a senior national security policy fellow at Third Way, a think tank based in Washington, D.C. He previously served as senior program officer at the United States Institute of Peace, where he conducted conflict resolution trainings around the world, including in Bosnia, Colombia, Darfur and Iraq. Before that, he assessed the African Union's peacekeeping force in Darfur for Refugees International. Morgenstein has served in the Marine Corps Reserves for more than 21 years. Currently a captain, he has been selected for promotion to major. He has served tours in Ramadi, Iraq as a civil affairs officer; Hit and Haditha, Iraq as a trainer embedded with the Iraqi army; in Sarajevo, Bosnia; and at the Pentagon as an analyst for the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
