Volunteering at the Annual Spring Fling

Sarah Thompson '11 spends time with Dyaneisha Morales during the annual Spring Fling, organized by freshmen enrolled in the New Student Seminar for children from Newport's Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.

Feinstein Enriching America

The Feinstein Enriching America program (FEAP) introduces freshman students to the benefits of service learning during their first year within the context of the New Student Seminar.

The FEAP is the service learning component of the New Student Seminar, a one-credit course for all first-year students. Completion of the FEAP is necessary to earn a "P" passing grade and credit in the New Student Seminar. When the FEAP is completed, a "P" (no academic credit) is recorded on the academic transcript as FEAP (GST111).

To complete this requirement, all community service must be completed in the Newport area and through a nonprofit/501(c)(3). All programs offered by the Office of Community Service are bona fide community service projects. Other projects must be approved by the Office of Community Service before they can be considered appropriate for a community service experience.

Community service can vary from working with children, with the elderly, working in a sports-oriented atmosphere or in local soup kitchens, helping with local food drives, working with animals, tutoring, environmental projects and much more. For more information, visit the local nonprofits and resources page.

Once the minimum requirement is completed, students should have the Community Service Verification Form completed, signed by their supervisor and returned to the Office of Community Service, located in Miley Hall, room 119A.
