Volunteers are needed from 8:30-10:30 a.m. to help deliver Christmas trees.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 8:15 a.m., return at 10:30 a.m.

Volunteers are needed from 5-8 p.m. to ring the Salvation Army bells at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue.
Transportation: This site is located on the trolley line.

Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2: Salvation Army Bell Ringing

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to ring the Salvation Army bells at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue. Volunteers may sign up for two-hour shifts: 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., 4-6 p.m. or 6-8 p.m.
Transportation: This site is located on the trolley line.

Saturday, Dec. 2: Emmanual Church

Volunteers are needed from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to help with holiday caroling, crafts and dancing.

Monday, Dec. 4 through Friday, Dec. 8: The Breakers

Volunteers are needed to operate the model train at the Breakers. Duties include operating the train, ensuring successful setup and cleanup, minor maintenance and passing out treats to young visitors. Volunteers may sign up for four-hour shifts: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.
Transportation: This site is located on the trolley line.

Tuesday, Dec. 5: St. Paul's Church Warm Up Wednesday (FULL)

Volunteers are needed at the Mercy Center from 6-8 p.m. to bake sweet treats for St. Paul's Church's Warm Up Wednesday program.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.

Saturday, Dec. 9: The Breakers

Volunteers are needed for the Breakers' holiday evening hospitality event. Under the guidance of Preservation Society staff, volunteers will serve beverages and cookies to guests visiting the Breakers.

Sunday, Dec. 10: Emmanuel Church

Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help "green" the Emmanuel Church for the holiday season.

Volunteers are needed to help in Santa's workshop. They can sign up in three shifts, 10:45 a.m. to 1: 30 p.m., 1:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Tuesday, Dec. 19: MLK Center, Santa's Workshop

Volunteers are needed to help in Santa's workshop. They can sign up in three shifts, 8:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 20: MLK Center, Food distribution

Volunteers are needed to help food bag distribution. They can sign up in three shifts, 9:45 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Monday, Jan. 15: God’s Community Gardens

Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon to harvest the gardens during the first MLK day of service at God's Community Gardens.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 9:40 a.m., return at noon.

Monday, Jan. 15: MLK Center

Volunteers are needed to help create and make bags out of recycled T-shirts from 10 a.m. to noon.
Transportation: Project will be located in Wakehurst.

  • Saturday, Sept. 16: Clean Ocean Access. Volunteers are needed at Easton's (First) Beach in Newport from noon to 2 p.m. to help Clean Ocean Access with a beach cleanup.
  • Saturday, Sept. 23: Child & Family. Volunteers are needed for Child & Family's "Touch a Truck" event from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Duties include greeting families and dressing up as mascots and additional characters for the children in attendance.
  • Saturday, Sept. 30: Norman Bird Sanctuary Harvest Fair. Volunteers are needed from noon to 5 p.m. to help Norman Bird Sanctuary with various children's games, arts and crafts.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 3: Emmanuel Church soup kitchen: Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen.
  • Saturday, Oct. 7: Trinity Church pumpkin patch. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon to unload pumpkins at Trinity Church in Newport.
  • Sunday, Oct. 8: Newport Marathon. Volunteers are needed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help with dune protection and recycling for the Newport Marathon event at Easton's (First) Beach. Volunteers may sign up for shifts: 5-8 a.m., 8-11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and noon to 3 p.m.
  • Thursday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 13: Daffy Days. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Wakehurst lawn to pack 45,000 daffodil bulbs in "Let's Get Daffy" bags, which will be given to Newport residents and businesses to plant throughout the city.
  • Saturday, Oct. 14: Daffodil Giveaway. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon at Easton's (First) Beach to distribute daffodil bulbs to Newport residents and businesses.
  • Monday, Oct. 16: Newport Hospital. Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to create tissue paper flowers for Newport Hospital.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 17: St. Paul's Church Warm Up Wednesday. Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. at the Mercy Center to bake sweet treats for St. Paul's Church's Warm Up Wednesday program.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 18: Confetti Foundation. Volunteers are needed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to create birthday banners for the Confetti Foundation.
  • Thursday, Oct. 19: Head Start Halloween Costumes. Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to create Halloween costumes for the children at Head Start.
  • Friday, Oct. 20: Potter League for Animals. Volunteers are needed from 7-9 p.m. in Wakehurst, Room 201 to create cat toys for the Potter League for Animals.
  • Friday, Nov. 3: Redwood Library. Volunteers are needed from 10-11 a.m. to plant daffodils on the Redwood Library lawn.
  • Saturday, Nov. 4: Daffodillion. Volunteers are needed from 9-11 a.m. to plant daffodils along the Cliff Walk at Forty Steps (Narragansett Avenue).
  • Saturday, Nov. 4: Race for Open Space. Volunteers are needed to from 9:15-11:30 a.m. to help with the Aquidneck Land Trust's Race for Open Space. 
  • Monday, Nov. 6: Daffodillion. Volunteers are needed from 7:30-8:30 a.m. to plant daffodils at the corner of Thames and Deaborn streets.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 7: St. Paul's Church Warm Up Wednesday. Volunteers are needed from 6-8 p.m. at the Mercy Center to bake sweet treats for St. Paul's Church's Warm Up Wednesday program.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 7: Emmanuel Church Soup Kitchen. Volunteers are needed from 4:30-6:30 p.m. to set up, work and clean up the soup kitchen.
  • Thursday, Nov. 16: God's Community Garden. Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to noon to help prep the gardens for winter.
  • Friday, Nov. 17 and Saturday, Nov. 18: Emmanuel Church Holiday Fair. Volunteers are needed from 4-9 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to help greet, set up and organize during the holiday fair. Friday shifts are 4-6 p.m., 6-8 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday shifts are 7:30-9:30 a.m., 9:30-11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:30-4 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 18: Fall Recycling Day. Volunteers are needed at Easton's (First) Beach from 8 a.m. to noon to set up the event, help traffic flow, greet and breakdown the event.
  • Sunday, Nov. 19: Emmanuel Church Holiday Fair. Volunteers are needed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm. to help at the holiday fair.
