Oct. 24-25: Fortress of Nightmares

Volunteer opportunities for Fort Adams' Fortress of Nightmares include:

  • Scaring – Will be assigned a location in the fort to scare customers
  • Security – Patrol fort grounds and assist with crowd management (must be 21-plus)
  • Box office – Scan tickets with barcode scanner and laptop
  • Volunteer care – Keep volunteer area stocked with snacks and drinks, organize costume area and assist with check-in/out process
  • Nightly ops crew – Complete a nightly checklist to open and close the attractions around the fort

​Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 4:30 p.m., return at 10 p.m.

Nov. 1: Recycling event

Volunteers are needed for the City of Newport's "Bye Bye Bins and Barrels" recycling event. This is a one-day event for residents to recycle old recycling bins and trash barrels. Volunteers are needed to help direct traffic, greet cars and whatever else comes up during the event.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 7:20 a.m., return at noon.

Nov. 16: McKinney Shelter

Volunteers are needed Sunday, Nov. 16 to prepare a meal at the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life and serve it at the McKinney Shelter in downtown Newport. Transportation and all cooking supplies will be provided. This service opportunity will run from 2:30-6 p.m.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided.

Nov. 18: St. Paul's Church

Volunteers are needed Tuesday, Nov. 18 to bake desserts for the Warm Up Wednesday program sponsored by St. Paul's Church. Volunteers will meet in the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life from 6-8 p.m. All supplies will be provided.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.

Nov. 20: Salvation Army bell ringing

Volunteers are needed between noon and 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 for the Salvation Army's Christmas bell ringing at the Stop & Shop on Bellevue Avenue. Shifts are available from noon to 2 p.m., 2-4 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Volunteers may sign up in groups of three to five.

Nov. 21: Emmanuel Church lasagna dinner

Volunteers are needed from 3-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 to set up tables and chairs for Emmanuel Church's lasagna dinner. As some vendors for the holiday fair on Saturday will be arriving and setting up on Friday night, volunteers will also help vendors carry their materials into the church and assist with any setup they may require.

Nov. 22: Emmanuel Church holiday fair setup

Volunteers are needed from 7-9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 to help set up for Emmanuel Church's holiday fair. Some tables will need supervision, so students may also volunteer at a table during the fair, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Transportation: This service site is on the trolley line. Volunteers should consult the trolley schedule.
