Nutrition education program

Volunteers are needed on Tuesdays in September and October to help with Farm Fresh Rhode Island's nutrition education program "Healthy Foods, Healthy Families," which is held at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 2:45 p.m., return at 6 p.m.

Sept. 18: J/24 World Championships

Volunteers are needed Thursday, Sept. 18 to assist Sail Newport with the measurement process for the J/24 World Championships.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 11:45 a.m., return at 4 p.m.

Sept. 20: International Coastal Cleanup

Volunteers are needed Saturday, Sept. 20 to assist Clean Ocean Access with the annual International Coastal Cleanup. Volunteers will meet at the corner of Wetmore and Marine avenues.
Transportation: This site is on the trolley line. Students should arrive by 9:45 a.m.

Sept. 21: Walk to End Alzheimer's

Volunteers are needed on campus Sunday, Sept. 21 to help the Alzheimer's Association set up and break down and hand out water to participants. Volunteers will meet behind the O'Hare Academic Center at 10:30 a.m. and will be finished by 3 p.m.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.

Sept. 21: Clean Ocean Access swim event

Volunteers are needed Sunday, Sept. 21 to help with Clean Ocean Access' swim event in Newport Harbor. Volunteers will help with land activities (sign-in table and finish line activities) at Perrotti Park and King Park.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 6:45 a.m., return at 10 a.m.

Sept. 24: Clean City Program

Volunteers are needed to stuff packets regarding the new refuse collection program for Newport residents. This volunteer opportunity will take place at the Edward King House.
Transportation: This site is on the trolley line. Students should arrive by 3:45 p.m.

Sept. 27: Recycling event

Volunteers are needed for the City of Newport's "Bye Bye Bins and Barrels" recycling event. This is a one-day event for residents to recycle old recycling bins and trash barrels. Volunteers are needed to help direct traffic, greet cars and whatever else comes up during the event.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 7:20 a.m., return at noon.

Sept. 27: Color Me Rad 5K

Volunteers are needed Saturday, Sept. 27 to assist with the Color Me Rad 5K in Seekonk, Mass. Volunteers will be responsible for cleanup and break down. For each volunteer that is recruited, Color Me Rad will donate $75 to Boys Town New England.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 10 a.m., return at 5 p.m.

Sept. 28: Cluny School Country Fair

Cluny's 53rd Country Fair will be held Sunday, Sept. 28. Each year, the school transforms into an old-fashioned country fair with carnival games, hayrides, field games and live music.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 10:30 a.m., return at 3 p.m.

Oct. 4-5: 40th annual Harvest Fair

Volunteers are needed at the Norman Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5 to help with arts and crafts, children's games and entertainment.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 12:30 p.m., return at 5 p.m.

Oct. 7: Emmanuel Church soup kitchen

Volunteers are needed Tuesday, Oct. 7 for Emmanuel Church's monthly soup kitchen.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 2:45 p.m., return at 5 p.m.

Oct. 17: Daffodillion project

Volunteers are needed Friday, Oct. 17 to assist Newport's Daffodillion campaign with bagging daffodills.Volunteers will meet on the oceanside lawn of McAuley Hall at 11 a.m. and will be finished by 4 p.m.
Transportation: Not available for this on-campus event.

Oct. 17-18 and 24-25: Fortress of Nightmares

Volunteer opportunities for Fort Adams’ Fortress of Nightmares include:

  • Scaring – Will be assigned a location in the fort to scare customers
  • Security – Patrol fort grounds and assist with crowd management (must be 21-plus)
  • Box office – Scan tickets with barcode scanner and laptop
  • Volunteer care – Keep volunteer area stocked with snacks and drinks, organize costume area and assist with check-in/out process
  • Nightly ops crew – Complete a nightly checklist to open and close the attractions around the fort

​Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 4:30 p.m., return at 10 p.m.

Oct. 19: Climbing With Cluny School 5K

Volunteers are needed Sunday, Oct. 19 to staff a water stop at Cluny School for the Climbing With Cluny School 5K.
Transportation: Van transportation is provided. Pick up at Miley Hall at 7:15 a.m., return at 10:30 a.m.
