NEWPORT, R.I. – The SRU Dance Club, Salve Regina University’s student-run dance organization, will present its fall performance, “Shake That!” on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 19 and 20 in the Rodgers Recreation Center, Webster Street.
Performances, open to the public, will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Admission for Saturday’s show is a minimum $1 donation to the Andrea Rizzo Foundation, while admission for Sunday’s performance is $5. At both shows, admission for children young enough to sit on an adult’s lap is free.
This year’s fall performance will include almost 30 dances ranging from hip hop, jazz, tap, lyrical, Irish step, and African. The largest student-run organization at Salve Regina, SRU Dance will feature more than 100 performers dancing to the music of Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, LMFAO, Adele and more.
Proceeds from Saturday’s performance support the Andrea Rizzo Foundation. Rizzo was a graduate of Salve Regina who was tragically killed by a drunk driver at age 24.
The foundation in her name raises money for children’s cancer research through dance therapy programs and the spring performance raised over $1,000 for those causes.
As a childhood cancer survivor, Rizzo’s dream was to become a dance therapist. SRU Dance continues to help the foundation make her dream come true in children’s centers across the country.
