The Jazz Camp at Newport

Sponsored by Salve Regina and the University of Rhode Island, the Jazz Camp at Newport is an exciting opportunity for students ages 14-18 to meet new people, learn from experienced music professors and discover the depths of their talent during a weeklong series of classes, rehearsals and more.

The camp will feature daily jazz combo and big band rehearsals, master classes, jam sessions, theory courses and sightseeing in historic Newport, R.I. Students will receive a ticket to the Newport Jazz Festival on Friday, August 4, and will also have the opportunity for a meet-and-greet with a Newport Jazz Festival artist.

Application and Fees

The application deadline is June 15.

A $100 deposit and audition recording must accompany all applications. For accepted students, the balance is due by July 10. Payment plans are available upon request.

Placement auditions can be submitted by emailing a sound file or link to jazzcamp@salve.edu or by sending a digital file by mail to the address listed on the application form. A completed registration form and deposit must accompany all audition recordings.

Housing and Meals

Salve Regina's campus is situated along Newport's famous mansion-lined Cliff Walk and is within walking distance of beaches, shopping and sightseeing. Students will be housed in one of the University's historic residence halls. Each camper will receive bed linens and a set of towels. Free laundry facilities and wireless Internet will be provided. Commuters may purchase a meal package or pay per meal.
