Our Certificate of Graduate Studies (CGS) programs provide students with opportunities for professional development without the formal pursuit of a graduate degree, while the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) programs provide students with opportunities to continue their graduate studies upon completion of a master’s degree program.
CGS in Holistic Studies
The CGS in holistic studies is designed for individuals who wish to take courses in holistic studies and create an individualized program of study to meet their personal and professional goals. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) on topics in holistic counseling, holistic leadership and the expressive and creative arts. CGS in Holistic Leadership
The CGS in holistic leadership is designed for individuals who wish to study holistic approaches to leadership, with an emphasis on helping skills, organizational learning, and systems thinking. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) from the holistic leadership core curriculum. Students who wish to enter this certificate program must first complete two prerequisites in holistic counseling and holistic leadership. CGS in Holistic Leadership and Management
The CGS in holistic leadership and management is designed for individuals who wish to further hone their leadership skills. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) on topics in holistic leadership and management.
CGS in Holistic Leadership and Change Management
The CGS in holistic leadership and change management is designed for individuals who wish to develop the communication, leadership and problem-solving skills needed to facilitate change within an organization. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) on topics in holistic leadership and management.
CGS in Substance Abuse Foundations in Holistic Studies
The CGS in substance abuse foundations in holistic studies is designed for individuals who wish to develop their knowledge and skills for higher employability in the field of substance abuse. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) on topics in counseling and leadership foundations, interpersonal communication skills, substance abuse foundations and identification of special population needs within the context of substance abuse treatment.
M.A. in Holistic Counseling and CAGS in Mental Health: Concentration in Holistic Counseling
The 60-credit M.A. and CAGS program in mental health with a concentration in holistic counseling provides graduate education in counseling to students who are interested in pursuing state licensure as a mental health counselor.
To earn this degree and certificate, students must successfully complete courses on topics in holistic counseling, as well as two advanced internship seminars and an additional 1,000-hour internship. With appropriate supervised experience, graduates of this program are eligible to sit for the state licensing exam. Licensing laws vary from state to state. Students are responsible for knowing the requirements for the state in which they are seeking licensure.
CAGS in Holistic Leadership
The CAGS in holistic leadership provides further graduate education to students who wish to study holistic approaches to leadership, with an emphasis on helping skills, organizational learning, and systems thinking. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) from the holistic leadership core curriculum. Students who wish to enter this certificate program must first complete one prerequisite course in holistic leadership. CAGS in Substance Abuse and Treatment
The CAGS in substance abuse and treatment is designed for individuals interested in completing the continuing education units needed to meet national certification standards and Rhode Island state licensing requirements. To earn this certificate, students must successfully complete four courses (12 credits) on topics related to substance abuse, treatment and chemical dependency.
Students who wish to enter this program must have:
- A master's degree in mental health counseling or equivalent master's degree in health care or other behavioral degree programs from an accredited institution.
- The prerequisite courses Toward Synthesis: Mind/Emotions: Theories of Counseling, Assessment and Treatment Planning, and The Psychology of Group Process, or the equivalent courses from an accredited institution.
- Any additional prerequisite courses that may be required depending upon the applicant's academic and/or professional background.
