Majors and Minors

Students wishing to major or minor in philosophy must have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 when applying to the department. Majors and minors are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 in philosophy courses and a cumulative GPA of 2.7.

Major in Philosophy (B.A.)

Students majoring in philosophy take a minimum of 10 courses (30 credits).

Required courses:

  • Logic
  • History of Western Philosophy I and II
  • Ethical Issues

Students choose six additional upper-level philosophy courses in consultation with department faculty.

Minor in Philosophy

Students completing a minor in philosophy take a minimum of six courses (18 credits).

Required courses:

  • History of Western Philosophy I or History of Western Philosophy II
  • Ethical Issues

Students take four additional upper-level philosophy courses in consultation with department faculty.
