Thursday, Sept. 2 to Tuesday, Sept. 7

Welcome to Salve Regina! We are so happy that you are joining our campus community. Our Week of Welcome program will provide you with an educational and engaging introduction to life at Salve Regina. You will meet fellow new students, learn about University resources and policies, and explore the campus and Newport community.

Week of Welcome programming is mandatory for all new students, including commuter and transfer students. There are several signature events included in Week of Welcome, including the day of service and Convocation. A variety of fun and engaging evening activities will also be offered, such as a campus-wide scavenger hunt and food truck party.

During Week of Welcome, you will be assigned to a group of 20-25 students led by an Orientation leader. We have identified indoor and outdoor spaces across campus where groups of this size can take part in programming while maintaining social distancing.

Activities will be offered in-person and virtually, and are subject to change based on current social distancing and group size guidelines from the Rhode Island Department of Health. Meals will be included for each day of the program.

Online Orientation

Our online Orientation will help you connect with the Salve Regina community before you arrive on campus this fall. You’ll learn more about the offices and resources available to all students and take a virtual tour of campus. You can access the online Orientation beginning Tuesday, June 1. All modules must be completed by Monday, Aug. 2.

Day of Service

Salve Regina considers participation in community service a visible way to live the University’s mercy mission. During the day of service, you will volunteer on campus with your Week of Welcome group. There may also be opportunities to volunteer off campus with community partners located throughout Aquidneck Island. If you volunteer off campus, you will know where your service site is ahead of time so you can dress accordingly. All students will receive a day of service T-shirt.

Convocation

A University tradition that officially opens the new academic year and welcomes new students into the academic community, Convocation is a celebration that marks the beginning of your career at Salve Regina. Convocation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 7.

When does the fall semester start?

Classes for the fall 2021 semester begin Wednesday, Sept. 8.

What is my room assignment for the fall?

The room assignment process begins with an online housing application, which provides the Office of Residence Life with the information necessary to assign you a roommate(s) and residence hall room.

Housing applications are available online from May 17 through July 1. After July 1, room and roommate requests are processed. Please note that roommate requests are only granted when all students requesting roommates have indicated the option on their respective applications. In late July, you will receive notification through your Salve Regina email address that your room assignment and roommate information is available.

For more information, contact the Office of Residence Life at (401) 341-2210 or residencelife@salve.edu.

What about textbooks?

Textbooks are also available to rent or purchase in digital or printed format from the bookstore website. You are encouraged to consider rental or digital options to help lower the cost of textbooks. You may highlight and make notes in both used and new rented textbooks. You may also convert a rented textbook to a purchase any time during the semester by paying the difference between the rental and purchase price.

For more information, call the Salve Regina bookstore at (401) 847-9086.

Is there a bank on campus or nearby where I can open an account?

Santander Bank is nearby and has an ATM in Miley Hall. A second ATM is located in Gerety Hall. It is not affiliated with a bank and charges $1 per transaction.
