What to Bring

Please review the suggested items to bring and prohibited items listed below. The list has been adjusted to include suggestions for students residing on campus and those who will be residing at the Newport Marriott during the 2020-2021 academic year.

On-campus residence hall rooms are furnished with the following items (one per student): extra-long twin bed, closet or wardrobe, bureau, desk and chair. Rooms also have wired and wireless internet.

Rooms at the Newport Marriott are furnished with the following items (one per student): queen bed, closet or wardrobe and bureau. Each room comes with one desk. A second desk can be added upon request after move-in. These rooms also have a refrigerator, television and wireless internet.

Required Items for All Resident Students

  • Cloth face coverings
  • Thermometer
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Go-bag items (see separate list below)

What to Bring (On-Campus Residents)

  • Extra-long twin sheets and blankets
  • Fan
  • Desk lamp
  • Storage containers
  • Trash can
  • Sticky tack for posters
  • Surge protector
  • Umbrella/rain boots
  • Laundry detergent
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Clothes (pack summer/fall clothes to start and bring home when winter clothes are needed, etc.)
  • Pots, pans, dishes, utensils for students in residence halls with a kitchen

Please only bring what you need. Additional items may be purchased upon arrival from the many different stores on Aquidneck Island.

Things to Coordinate With Your Roommate (On-Campus Residents)

  • Up to a 3.2 cubic foot refrigerator (one per room)
  • 0.7 cubic foot microwave (one per room)
  • Television/DVD player (please note that Salve Regina now utilizes a streaming service so there is no cable connection in rooms)
  • Room decorations
  • Gaming system
  • Rugs

What to Bring (On-Campus Apartments)

Each apartment unit includes kitchen with oven, stove, sink and apartment-sized refrigerator/freezer, as well as common area with TV and bathroom(s).

Students should coordinate the following items with their apartment-mates:

  • Dishes
  • Cups
  • Utensils
  • Flatware
  • Pots and pans
  • Dish soap and sponges
  • Garbage can
  • Cleaning supplies for kitchen and bathroom(s)

  • Queen sheets and blankets

  • Clean clothes for at least three days
  • Laundry detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets
  • Non-perishable snacks
  • Retainer (if you wear one)
  • Cell phone and phone charger
  • Laptop and laptop charger
  • Headphones
  • Textbooks and other school supplies
  • Wallet/purse with student ID card, medical insurance card and debit/credit card
  • Toiletry kit
  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrush/comb, hair dryer, tampons/pads, saline (if you wear contacts), body wash, razor, shaving cream, Q-tips, tissues
  • Glasses or contacts
  • Prescription and non-prescription medications

Do Not Bring

  • Pets
  • Candles/incense
  • Cooking appliances (single-cup coffeemakers such as Keurig, Breville and Tassimo are allowed)
  • Electric blankets
  • Space heaters/air conditioners
  • Halogen lamps/spider lamps
  • Christmas lights, string lights and paper lanterns that are not battery operated
  • Alcohol (including empty decorative bottles and shot glasses)
  • Cars (first-year students are not permitted to have cars on campus)
  • Weapons of any kind (including decorative swords and paintball guns)
  • Road signs
  • Drugs/drug paraphernalia
  • Hookah pipes/vaporizers/e-cigarettes
  • Hoverboards
  • Drones
