Sophomores are required to live on campus and housing is guaranteed. Sophomore room selection takes place in late April, with information sessions and open houses occurring throughout the month. During room selection, students choose their housing for their sophomore year, including roommates. Room selection times are distributed completely at random, giving equal access to space for all students.
Sophomore Pell Scholars
Room selection for Pell Scholars is an option for those students who are committed to a living learning Pell community. By living with fellow Pell Scholars, students are provided the unique opportunity to form meaningful, long-lasting relationships centered on a shared pursuit of understanding. Pell Scholars are not required to live in Pell housing their sophomore year, and those students who choose not to reside in Pell housing will participate in sophomore room selection in April. Registration for Pell housing begins in February.
Juniors and Seniors
Beginning with the Class of 2021, juniors will be required to live on campus and housing will be guaranteed. Housing for seniors is not required, and therefore not guaranteed. On-campus housing options for upperclassmen include apartments and ranch houses.
Junior/senior room selection is held in late February. Students who wish to participate submit a housing registration form through MyHousing, which is located in the portal. Students with questions about junior/senior housing should contact their area coordinator, resident advisor or the Office of Residence Life.
Room Selection FAQ
Floor charts will be posted in the Portal and outside the Office of Residence Life. Open houses will be held before the scheduled room selection date.
A computer-generated program randomly assigns selection times to all registered students participating in room selection.
Your time will be available through MyHousing on the advertised date prior to room selection.
You may elect to find a person to select your room for you or a member of the Residence Life staff will choose for you if you cannot send anyone in your place.
Room selection takes place online and can be completed from any computer or tablet with WiFi capability. The Office of Residence Life is open during room selection to answer questions and provide assistance.
Once you decide who you want to live with next year, you should compare selection times. The person with the best time will act as the lead person during the process and they will "pull in" the rest of the roommates. You should show up with the person who has the best time.
When your time has started, you and your roommate(s) will enter the selection room in MyHousing and choose your room. Make sure you have a few options, as your first choice may not be available.
All students should come to room selection with a few options in mind. If at the time of room selection there are no available singles you can request to be put on a waiting list. Residence Life will contact you by email if a space becomes available. Please keep in mind a space may not become available until the summer.
I am transferring and will not be using my room selection time. Can I give my time to another student?
Room selection times are not transferrable. If you are not participating in the room selection process we will skip your time and move on to the next student.
Your group must be equal to the number of beds available in the room you are selecting. If for some reason there are only triples left at the time of your selection, we will offer you the option to choose a third roommate or a third roommate will be assigned.
