Student filmmakers to premiere ‘The Final Cut’ on April 1
“The Final Cut,” a horror-slasher short film – the first produced by Salve Regina’s student-run film production club – will premiere on Friday, April 1. Free and open to the public, the screening will be presented at 6 p.m. in Bazarsky Lecture Hall, located in O’Hare Academic Center on Ochre Point Avenue.
The film is a found-footage style horror film that follows a college student named Andrea who encounters her ex-boyfriend on the Cliff Walk that abuts Salve’s campus. Her ex, named Greg, is bent on creating a horror film with a killer twist: the actors in his film will actually die.
Lily Jones, a junior communications major and double minor in film and Spanish, is the film’s co-producer, co-director, co-writer, co-camera operator and editor. She got the idea for the plot while spending time in Newport last summer and frequently walking the Cliff Walk.
“I discovered this creepy tunnel and I thought ‘this would be really cool for a horror film,’” Jones told Mosaic, Salve Regina’s student-run newspaper. “The cliff walk is a beautiful place, but it can also be menacing.”
In addition to Jones, the film crew includes Ryan "Buddy" Colwell '17, Juan Roldan '16, Kyla Russell '18, Jack Farrell '18, Alana Boulter '18, Ellena Sweet '16, and Stephanie Menders '17. The cast includes Mariana Bracciale '16, Nathaniel Flachs '18, Laura Jedynasty '17, Dean Wollenberg '16, Colin Burke '17, and Sofia Talbot '17.
