Department of music, theatre and dance presents spring concerts

Salve Regina’s department of music, theatre and dance has several spring concerts on tap, including performances from the university’s choral groups along with the Newport Community Symphonic Band and the Newport County Orchestra.

Admission is $8 for general and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door for all concerts. For more information, call (401) 341-2295.

The Spring Choral Concert, “In the Mood,” featuring performances from the University Chorus, Madrigals Chorus, and the a cappella groups “Cliffnotes” and “Pitches with Attitude,” will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 8 p.m. in Ochre Court, 100 Ochre Point Ave. Directed by Donald St. Jean, the performance will feature selections by Glenn Miller, Schumann, Verdi, Stroope, Fauré, Sondheim, and others.

The Newport Community Symphonic Band will presents its spring concert on Sunday, April 24 at 4 p.m. in the Casino Theatre, 9 Freebody St. Directed by Peter Davis, the program will feature works by Igor Stravinsky, John Williams, David Biedenbender, Robert Jager, Tito Puente, and Mongo Santamaria. The Salve Regina Flute Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble will also perform.

The Newport County Orchestra Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 the Casino Theatre. The program, directed by Vincent Mattera, will include works from Beethoven, Mozart, Robert Krommer and Franz Schumann.
