Center for Business Outreach opens new conference room for its student engagement program

NEWPORT, R.I. (Dec. 5, 2016) – Salve Regina University’s Business Studies and Economics Department has announced the opening of its new Center for Business Outreach conference room housed in the newly renovated O’Hare Academic Building.
The new room, O’Hare 127, will serve as the home for the Center’s student engagement program and features state-of-the-art technology for collaboration between students, faculty, alumni and the business community. Video and teleconferencing is now available through several media platforms.
The Center connects students with the greater business community. Conferences can be streamed live for students to view. A new series of drop-in sessions has begun, called “Ask the Expert,” and roundtables with business leaders are planned throughout the academic year.
Networking events with entrepreneurial organizations such as the Newport Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Women & Enterprise will help students build relationships throughout the course of their college careers.
In the first two academic years of the center’s existence, approximately 495 students participated in classroom projects; creating business plans, social media analysis, marketing strategies and customer surveys. Working with over 60 businesses, the students received hands-on experience, offering a glimpse into the real world of entrepreneurship. The center started its third academic year in September.
“Working with the Center has given me the chance to experience real life work that cannot be taught in a class setting. From writing a business plan to market research, this has given me a great opportunity to learn firsthand how to overcome problems and create solutions,” said Salve Regina senior Una Doherty.
The Center is run by Stacey Carter and is open daily from 8 AM to 6 PM. The center provides resources and tools to students, faculty and alumni for classes, entrepreneurship and networking purposes.
The Center is currently looking for businesses for the spring semester. Those interested in working with the CBO can fill out a form at: If you would like more information, please email the center at Instagram: #salvecenterbiz.
