Employer FAQ

We are happy to help promote and advertise your job and internship opportunities to Salve students through our electronic job and internship database, Handshake. Salve students can search and apply for job and internships positions directly through the Handshake system. If you are interested in advertising an opportunity to our students, please follow the guidelines below.

Create Your Own Handshake Account

  • Visit Handshake to create your profile. During registration, if your organization does not already have an employer account, you will need to create one.
  • It is important that both your personal and your employer account are detailed, giving students a clear description of your organization.
  • Use Handshake's employer support articles to learn how to best utilize the platform.

Post a Job/Internship Opportunity in Handshake

  • Log in to your Handshake account.
  • Click "Job Postings" in the left-hand column, then "New Job" in the upper right-hand corner.
  • Complete the fields with as much detail as possible to create the job. The details you provide help Handshake display your opportunity to the right audience of students.
  • You can distribute the job posting to one or more universities using the "Schools" tab. Select Salve Regina in the "Choose a School" drop-down to post the job for Salve students.

Job and Internship Posting Criteria and Approval

The Office of Career Development has created the following policies for vetting and approving jobs and internships posted through Handshake:

General Guidelines

  1. All employers must register their companies and maintain their own postings through the Handshake system
  2. Job descriptions must be detailed, clear and comprehensive
  3. The posting must be tied to a disclosed company or organization with an active website and company email address (no personal email addresses will be permitted)
  4. Positions that charge program fees to students will not be approved
  5. Commission-only postings or postings from third-party recruiters will not be approved

Domestic Positions/Positions in Private Homes

Positions performed in private homes will no longer be accepted. This includes, but is not limited to, internships, babysitters, nannies, tutors, elder care, pet care and yard care. This is a precaution not only for the safety of our students, but also for the community members we serve. We encourage families to use Care.com, as this is where our students are directed to find such work.

Internships

We welcome both paid and unpaid internship opportunities, but the University reserves the right to determine suitability for academic credit. We follow the criteria for internship programs under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Internships that do not require the pursuit of a bachelor's degree and/or do not provide a learning environment will not be approved. If you are interested in hosting an intern and need assistance developing a position description, please contact us.

Overseas Organizations/Positions

At this time, positions and organizations that are not based in the United States will not be approved. This is for the interest and safety of our students.
