Expressive and Creative Arts

Get Started

Our expressive and creative arts program empowers students toward positive transformation through the arts and creative expression. This vibrant program provides counselors, therapists, social workers, educators, artists, wellness practitioners and workshop leaders with experiential training in the expressive and creative arts, integrating the arts with helping professions.

Our Program

Our program uses a holistic, multi-modal approach to the professional application of the expressive and creative arts, concentrating on an integration of visual arts with movement, sound and expressive writing.

We offer a Certificate of Graduate Studies, which provides students with professional development without the formal pursuit of a graduate degree, along with the post-master’s Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies. The CAGS is available to students who have graduated or will graduate from our master’s programs in holistic counseling, rehabilitation counseling or holistic leadership, or from related master’s programs at another institution. For students currently enrolled in our counseling or leadership programs, the CAGS pathway adds a specialization to their chosen field.

Courses are available at our Newport campus and are offered in an innovative hybrid format, featuring weekend classes accompanied by guided study modules to further assimilate the learning and practice.

Program Spotlight: The Arts, Nature and Eco-Consciousness

Offered biennially, “The Arts, Nature and Eco-Consciousness” is a weekend workshop designed for teachers, facilitators, counselors, therapists and artists who are looking for hands-on ways to weave theory and creative practice of nature-consciousness into their work and life. The workshop offers an exploration of creative processes with a focus on new perspectives in the evolving consciousness of all life on the planet.

Through a hands-on approach to self-expression and reverential ecology, participants engage in self-exploration through the expressive arts, including visual arts, sound and music, creative movement and theater arts.
