Back to Salve: Resources for returning to campus during the coronavirus pandemic. Read more >>
Our four-course Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) programs provide students with opportunities to continue their graduate studies upon completion of a master's degree program. We offer certificates in mental health with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling and rehabilitation with a concentration in substance abuse counseling.
Our CAGS in mental health with a concentration in rehabilitation counseling provides further graduate education in mental health counseling to students who hold a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related field and are interested in pursuing state licensure as a mental health counselor.
Our CAGS in rehabilitation with a concentration in substance abuse counseling offers advanced education to students who hold a rehabilitation counseling or counseling-related master’s degree of less than 60 credits. The certificate is designed for students interested in pursuing licensure as a substance abuse counselor and is issued once all academic and clinical requirements are met.
Courses are offered at our Center for Adult Education in Warwick, Rhode Island. Select courses may also be offered online and at our Newport campus.

Program Director:
Dr. Judith Drew
Andrew Karp ’17 (M) was attracted to Salve’s rehabilitation counseling program by the opportunity to customize his education, allowing him to pursue budding interests in research and neuropsychology. Working with program director Dr. Judith Drew, he secured a clinical internship with neuropsychologist Dr. Francis Sparadeo.
Dr. Drew really personalized what I'm doing to me, which is why I ultimately chose the program. Everyone isn't getting the same cookie-cutter experience. I did something totally different than anyone else in the program, and I know for a fact that other students also had their own personalized journey.
Our faculty are seasoned professionals who are experts in their field. Instructors work one-on-one with students to meet their individual needs while serving as career-focused mentors.
