Salve Regina offers language support on campus. The English for Academic Purposes program is offered to undergraduate students during the academic year. This program is open to non-native speakers of English who are enrolled as degree-seeking students. Through classroom sessions, individual tutoring and working with conversation partners, students are provided with the support they need to communicate effectively in university settings. Participants must meet the stated eligibility requirements.
English for Academic Purposes
Excellent candidates for this program are:
- International students who do not meet English proficiency requirements at the time of admission. This includes students who score lower than 80 Internet-based or 550 paper-based on the TOEFL, 6.5 on the IELTS or 53 on the PTE Academic.
- International students who need additional English language and cultural support to be successful in academic and student life. (At the discretion of the admission committee, international student advisor and EAP coordinator, a non-native English speaker attending Salve Regina could be tested during Orientation for English proficiency and may be placed into EAP courses.)
- International students who would like additional coursework in any of the following areas: research and writing, listening, speaking and grammar skills, and cross-cultural awareness.
EAP courses are credit-bearing (1-3 credits) and are taken in conjunction with major and core requirements. The program offers individual tutoring and includes participation in a conversation partner program.
