Aug. 18 - To students living at the Newport Marriott: Move-in information

Greetings, 

We hope this email finds you and your families safe and well. We are looking forward to your arrival on campus. Please review all the information below regarding your move-in process, etc.

Please arrive on the date and time that you have scheduled, which can be found on your MyHousing portal. Returning students assigned to the Marriott Hotel will move in Monday, Sept. 7 and Tuesday, Sept. 8. Shifts will begin on Monday Sept. 7 from 3-5 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 9-11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please note that we have created these move-in times after negotiating with the hotel as they are completing their summer and take the time to clean rooms prior to arrival.

Arrival: 

Upon arrival students will be directed to designated parking spaces and will proceed to the check-in desk which will be staffed by Residence Life. Parking spaces will be available near unloading areas and then once students belongings have been removed from their cars they should move to another parking space.  

Parents and families assisting with move-in:  

Two family members will be allowed to accompany each student during the move-in process. Students and families will be required to wear face coverings during move-in. 

Amenities for Marriott residents: 

  • 20 percent discount at The Spa at Newport Marriott  
  • 20 percent discount the MainSail restaurant  
  • Fitness center 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 9-11 p.m.
  • Indoor pool daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Meal Plans and the Newport Marriott:

For the 2020-2021 academic year, all sophomores will be required to carry the 14-meal plan regardless of an upgrade to an apartment on campus or relocation to the Newport Marriott.

Juniors and seniors who have been relocated to the Newport Marriott will be upgraded to the 14-meal plan at no additional cost.

The Newport Marriott will have small refrigerators in each room, along with microwaves in the common areas near the ice machines. 

Students living at the Newport Marriott may bring their own microwave (up to 1,000 watts).

Office of Residence Life - Resident Advisors:

There will be four Resident Advisors living at the Marriott. Students will receive an email in the coming weeks with the name and contact information for their RA.

Newport Marriott/Salve Regina University Parking:  

The University will not require students living at the Marriott to purchase a resident student parking decal for $125. 

Students living at the Marriott may choose to purchase a decal, which will entitle them to parking in a designated University parking lot. If they choose not to purchase a decal, they will not be permitted to park on University property, but will be required to utilize public street parking on a first come first serve basis. Students are reminded that convenient public street parking is often not available on the lower campus. Therefore, they should allow extra time for locating a legal parking space and walking to class. Parking on public intervening streets throughout campus is strictly enforced by the Newport Police Department and all violators are subject to ticketing and towing by the city of Newport.

Additionally, there will be no discounted rate for Marriott student decals, as all University parking permits for resident and commuter students are $125, regardless of assigned housing. All Marriott students will however, be required to display a Marriott Hotel parking pass in their vehicles at all times when parking on Marriott Hotel property. The Marriott Hotel will issue those parking passes independent of the University and all students will be subject to parking regulations as set forth by the hotel.

Mailroom Info: 

Mail Services will be available for students to pick up mail and packages outside of McKillop Library at the receiving doors. The inside sales/pickup window will not be open for at least the month of September. Stamps and postage will not be available at this time.  

Hours for package pick up: Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30-4 p.m. Students arriving early for quarantine, etc. will be able to pick up their packages any time during our regular hours.

  • Clothes (pack summer/fall clothes to start and bring home when winter clothes are needed, etc.)

Please only bring what you need. Additional items may be purchased upon arrival from the many different stores on Aquidneck Island.

Relocation Packing List (Go-Bag Items) 

  • Clean clothes for at least three days 
  • Laundry detergent, fabric softener and dryer sheets 
  • Non-perishable snacks 
  • Retainer (if you wear one) 
  • Cell phone and phone charger 
  • Laptop and laptop charger 
  • Headphones 
  • Textbooks and other school supplies 
  • Wallet/purse with student ID card, medical insurance card and debit/credit card 
  • Toiletry kit 
  • Toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, hairbrush/comb, hair dryer, tampons/pads, saline (if you wear contacts), body wash, razor, shaving cream, Q-tips, tissues 
  • Glasses or contacts 
  • Prescription and non-prescription medications
