The Pell Center promotes the primary objectives of Sen. Claiborne Pell's decades of public service: Enhancing international dialogue to achieve a more peaceful world and preparing individuals for an informed and active role in local, national and world affairs.
Designed as an outreach to middle and high schools in New England, and emphasizing the mission of the Pell Center to help inform the public of the world's complexities as well as prepare citizens for service, we mean for "The World and the Future" program to help students also become aware of the mission of Salve Regina University.
Capitol Forum provides an opportunity for high school students to deliberate about the role they believe the nation should play in an increasingly complex international environment. The program utilizes materials from Choices for the 21st Century that delve into historical and present-day U.S. foreign relations and global issues. Capitol Forum allows students to bridge to the world beyond the classroom both through the content it addresses and an annual advocacy day held at the Rhode Island Statehouse, where students participate in an open forum to share their views with peers and elected officials and policymakers. Capitol Forum Rhode Island is presented by Global Rhode Island.
The World Affairs Essay Contest is sponsored by the Pell Center and the Aquidneck Collaborative for Education.
