Declaration of Major

Students can officially declare a major as early as the spring of the freshman year. Students are required to declare a major by the end of the sophomore year (or when they earn 60 credits). The declaration process allows you an additional opportunity to review your program requirements and to build your academic plan for completing your degree.

To declare a major a student must meet the requirements of the department. Requirements may include minimum GPA, completion of a particular course, or meeting testing standards. (See catalog or department faculty for specific requirements.)

To Declare a Major

  • Obtain the declaration form for your program (available on this website or from the advising office).
  • Obtain an unofficial copy of your transcript from the Registrar's Office. (Copies are free of charge but you will need a photo ID.)
  • Schedule an appointment with department chair.
  • Deliver completed form to Academic Advising.
