Dr. Arlene Nicholas

My research interests include generational studies with a focus on Millennials and Generation Z, best practices in learning management systems and online education. Other studies have included telework, corporate social responsibility, benefit corporations, e-textbook usage, teamwork and electronic monitoring in the workplace.

It is my great fortune to have a career at my alma mater. My past work in management - including profit and nonprofit sectors - as well as consulting complements my teaching, researching and writing. Educating students about critical management methods in a variety of areas is an exciting challenge. Today's global and technological environment requires extensive communication and management skills. Enhancing students' abilities in analytical thinking and writing while instilling the importance of continuous learning is my mission.

I also keep engaged by presenting papers at national and international scholarly conferences and speaking to international businesses and professional organizations. Some of my works have been published as a book, a chapter in an encyclopedia, and in scholarly journals. It is also important to give back to the community with volunteering and membership in such organizations as the East Bay Skills Alliance, Child & Family, Junior Achievement, Seaman’s Church Institute, Touro Synagogue Foundation, Newport County Co-op Mentor Group, Newport County Chamber of Commerce, Social Enterprise Greenhouse and Aquidneck Island Land Trust. My most essential and rewarding work is with students developing and encouraging their business, community and life skills.
