NEWPORT – James W. Warhola, professor of political science at the University of Maine, will present a public lecture on the role of Turkey in the Middle East on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Policy, located in the Young Building on the corner of Bellevue and Ruggles avenues.
Free and open to the public, Warhola’s lecture, “The Role of Turkey in the Middle East: Changing Patterns in Domestic and Foreign Policies,” is being presented by the Pell Center and the Pell Honors Program. Warhola, who received his Ph.D. in political science from Ohio State University, specializes in comparative politics and political theory, and regularly offers courses in Russian and African politics, introduction to comparative politics and medieval political thought.
He has published in the Carl Beck Papers in Russian and East European Studies (University of Pittsburgh); The International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society (New School for Social Research, N.Y.); the Journal of Church and State (Baylor University); the American Journal of Political Science; monographs including “Politicized Ethnicity in the Russian Federation: Dilemmas of State Formation” (Edwin Mellen Press, 1996); and other publications in books and journals. Warhola also serves on the Editorial Council of the Journal of Church and State.
