NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina’s performing arts department will present three concerts as part of its holiday music schedule. Open to the public, tickets to each event is $8 for general admission and $5 for students/senior citizens.
The Christmas Choral Concerts, directed by Don St. Jean and featuring the university chorus, Madrigals, men’s and women’s ensembles, and student soloists, will take place on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8, at 8 p.m. in the Great Hall of Ochre Court.
Music will include selections from Handel’s Messiah for chorus, soloists, and orchestra, along with other seasonal favorites. Tickets are being sold in advance for these concerts.
Newport Community Symphonic Band Holiday Concert, directed by Peter Davis, will perform a concert featuring holiday music on Sunday, Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. in the Casino Theatre, 9 Freebody St. In addition to holiday music performed by the Symphonic Band, the concert will also include music by the percussion ensemble, flute ensemble and the jazz ensemble. Admission is payable at the door for this event.
The Newport County Orchestra Holiday Concert, directed by Vincent Mattera, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Casino Theatre. The orchestra is composed of students from Salve Regina, the community and advanced local high school players. The program will feature the music of Handel, Mozart, Bizet, Reed, and Anderson. Tickets are available at the door for this event.
A reception will follow each concert.
