NEWPORT, R.I. – Salve Regina sophomore Max Shubert was crowned the 2010 National Strength and Conditioning Association International Index champion, becoming the first athlete to score more than 2,000 points in international competition.
Shubert won three of the four events to score 2,067 points in the competition, which was held last month in Orlando, Fla. Index competitions include vertical jump, pro-agility run, 10-yard dash, and the hang clean.
He set international records by jumping 36 inches in the vertical jump, scoring 486 in pro-agility, and running the 10-yard dash in 1.66 seconds. His point total of 2,067 also set a new international record.
Shubert, 19, won the National Index Title last May in Colorado Springs, Colo. The West Chester, Pa. native plays cornerback on Salve Regina’s football team and was named the New England Football Conference Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2010.
